We Clarify 8 Myths About Lamps

Even though continuously growing in popularity in the market, there is still a lot of myths about LED bulbs. They range from harm to health to questioning whether this technology is really efficient .

We Clarify 8 Myths About Lamps

To clarify your doubts and show how this type of lamp has  much better benefits  compared to its predecessors and competitors, we have unveiled in this post 8 myths about LED technology in lighting!

1. “HIGH PRICE DOES NOT MAKE UP FOR THE INVESTMENT”

Wrong! Especially if you think in the medium and long term, you will realize that the savings from replacing conventional light bulbs with LEDs is significant.

This is due to the durability of this technology. Under normal conditions of use, the life of an LED lamp reaches 50 thousand hours.

In other words: if the lamp stays on for eight hours every day, the reduction of the brightness of the light will only be noticed from 40,000 total hours of use – about 15 years. If it stays on for less than eight hours a day, the service life is even longer.

Another financial advantage is in the  light bill : the LED lamps light up more, consuming about 50% less electricity, impacting directly on the family budget.

2. “THE LIGHT EMITTED IS OF POOR QUALITY”

That statement was correct only while technology was in its early stages of development. Now, however, it is the type of lamp that offers the highest quality and efficiency in its luminous level.

In addition, LED devices are extremely versatile because they have a wide range of  color temperatures and are well usable in residential, commercial or corporate environments without any detriment to user visibility.

3. “LED ILLUMINATION CAUSES VISION PROBLEMS”

The study to determine the harmfulness of this technology to the human eye found that it would only be dangerous in case of continuous exposure for 12 hours at a short distance of 10 cm.

However, such intense exposure would cause visual damage with any kind of lighting, natural or artificial.

4. “LED LAMPS ONLY ILLUMINATE SMALL AREAS WELL”

Every day new  types of light bulbs come  to the most varied uses, mainly for the corporate environment. The main advantages of equivalent LEDs on T5 or T8 lamps is the very low luminous depreciation – which occurs, as we have already mentioned, after many years of use.

The luminous intensity can also be enhanced by the use of luminaires that contain reflective devices that reduce inadequate dissipation or translucent locks that allow more uniform illumination. Another alternative is flat lamps, which direct the light emitted directly to the work planes below.

5. “ADAPTERS ARE REQUIRED TO USE THEM”

When they began to be imported into Brazil, years ago, de facto models needed adapters, due to the difference in Brazilian electrical standards with those of other countries.

However, most lamps, today, are manufactured in the type of socket E27, Brazilian standard, dispensing the acquisition of adapters.

6. “DISPOSAL IS MUCH MORE COMPLICATED”

This is one of the greatest myths on the subject. Unlike fluorescent, halogen or metallic vapor, LED bulbs do not contain heavy metals or other substances toxic to the environment in their composition.

Caring for your disposal should be as careful and recycling-oriented as other electronic devices such as cell phones, computers, or televisions.

7. “LED BULBS DO NOT HEAT UP”

This is also a myth, so be careful when handling! The LED bulbs warm up during operation, but the difference is that this heat remains internal to the system and is not dissipated to the environment, as is the case with halogen or incandescent lamps.

8. “CAN NOT WORK WITH DIMERIZATION”

Another mistake! There is a wide range of models that allow flexibility in levels of luminous intensity. The user will only have to search for an adequate control system, either from predefined scenes or from manual devices, similar to the switches.
